So, I have Skype download on my Samsung computer. I'm wondering how to create an account. And, also, wondering how to use it. I have jaws version 12.0. Many of my friends have been asking me if I created a Skype yet. So, thinking of creating an account. If you guys can help, thanks. :)
Hi,
When you open Skype, you should see a list of sign in options. The first one is Skype ID. You will need to create that. The option to create a new Skype ID is the last option in the list. When you click on create a new Skype ID, your browser should open with a form for you to fill in with your profile info. Just follow the instructions.
The second option would be to sign in with a microsoft account so if you have a microsoft account like a Hotmail, live or outlook email address, you can just sign in to Skype with that option.
You could also sign in with Facebook. It is also one of the options in the list. However, with Facebook, you will need to agree to some terms. After you click the option to sign in with Facebook, you can enter your Facebook email address and password. When you click log in, a page will ask you if Skype can get access to your Facebook profile information. Click OK and some other pages will appear. Just follow the instructions and you should be able to use Facebook with Skype.
When it comes to the log in page, there will be fields for your Skype ID/Facebook/Microsoft account email address, depending on which option you use and the password field. Just enter them in and click the login button. They may ask you to add profile photos, test your mic and webcam and such so just click continue or try to skip those if you wish to do them later.
In summary, if you have a Microsoft account or Facebook account, you can simply log in to Skype with those accounts without creating a new Skype ID. This will reduce the step of actually creating a new Skype ID so you will not need to fill in your profile information; Skype will get them from the account you are signing in with. Those accounts may display your contacts in those accounts in the contacts list. If that is an issue, you can actually set the filter in the Skype contacts list to display only "Skype" contacts.
Regarding your question on using Skype, could you clarify a little? Maybe you could give an example of what you want to do or something?
Sorry for the long post.
Hope that helps!
and its like i told you.
Jaws12 will need scripts to make Skype work optimaly.
I don't think jaws12 can be used very well without scripts. If you want to give it a try, you can.
Also the later versions of Skype are more accessible too, so it'd also be good to know which version of Skype you are running. Just so you know, if the Skype version is too old, it'll prompt you to upgrade, and you must do so or it won't run.
To check which Skype version you are running, open it and press ctrl+insert+V.
I'm trying to think whether the scripts even support JAWS 12 anymore. It might be possible to download older scripts though.
yes the scripts still support Jaws12. That is the oldest version dug's scripts will run on.
Ah, okay. That makes sense.
Thanks for the help. Thanks, Johny!
Also, you'll want to enable the accessibility option in your advanced preferences. I also recommend enabling compact view, although I believe it's called something else now, I can't remember off the top of my head. Basically, this enables you to have conversations in different windows. So if you're text chatting with one person and in a call with another, it becomes infinitely easier to interact with those two windows as you need them. This is especially true if you don't want to use the scripts for any reason.
If you hate the ads, post back here and I'll let you know how to disable them. Or you can do a google search for that info.
Split Window view is what it's called now. And yes, no matter what solution you use you're going to want to enable that.
Your welcome, fanny!
Adds? I didn't even know there was any. with using the scripts , I
cant tell they're even there.
Wait, there's adds? Oh boy. Youtube and Pandora again. *groans*
no. they're probably somewhere on the screen. it doesn't effect calls or text if you are typing to somebody. at least not with scripts, fanny
They can show up with the scripts, but as said before in the thread they can be removed. Should look that up again myself as they annoy me as I don't always use Jaws with Skype.
They can get in the way in the chat window if you're text chatting. It might be a minor annoyance for some people, but I can't stand them personally.
I have yet to see them but I think I know why.
I have a dollar or so in Skype credit on my account.
You can disable them in the settings menue. The are called adds.
Next, it is easier to set your view over accessibility.
Get the latest scripts, because Skype works best with these with your Jaws.
If you do a search here, you'll find lots of information on exactly how to set it up and use it.
okay, skyping on my IPhone now. computer was great and all but phone is
better. anyways, when you're in a group call and you want to add a contact,
what do I do with the IPhone? thanks! :)
1. I have never seen ads on skype.
2. Split window view? Whaaaaaat? I've used skype for three years, never even heard
of it. I just navigate between the convos by pressing alt and 2, then it shows recent
messages, and i can select the conversation from that list. For someone like me, who
has to sneak around with skype, that's really the only option. It would take far too long
to close all the windows.
3. NVDA rules in the area of screen access. You can even get an eloquence addon,
though most of the time it takes finding that addon from a private friend, as it is not on
the nvaccess addons site.
Did you setup your computer, or did an adaptive specialist?
These factors make a difference in how Skype works for some.
